Civil War Driving Tour 04/11/2011
Please join Historic Columbus and tour guide Fran Hall as we celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the start of the Civil War. Saturday, April 30, 2011 1:00pm-4:00pm Rankin House~1440 Second Avenue The driving tour will have 40 locations that will take people back to a time where the city had streets that were not paved or bricked, no comprehensive sewer system, and at night the town was lit only by gaslight, candle lanterns, and the moon. Sites visited will include all the locations of factories used to produce war material for the Confederacy, the homes of famous soldiers, and locations that were built during the Civil War as Columbus' population grew from 9,500 to over 15,000. Clubview Elementary has been involved with many of our School Activities this year. The 5th graders have been on the Black Heritage Trail driving tour and the "If I had a Hammer" Project, the 2nd graders made Native American Pottery, the Kindergardeners did Butter Churning, and the 3rd graders came on the Heritage Corner Tour on Broadway.
